I feel as if I’m still cutting it close with some of these reviews. But, that’s what I get when I’m moving at the same time as the season starting.
So, I thought this episode got some pretty big flak for not being as beautifully animated as the first one. I mean, the first episode was gorgeous and in comparison the second episode has some heights that are really hard to reach, especially when you’re asking a totally different studio to match it. This is no doubt like comparing shows that changed studios, such as Attack on Titan beginning at Studio Wit and transferring over to Studio MAPPA, who worked at Takt’s second episode.
MAPPA at least made this look like the same show Madhouse is working on. It has some funny moments, like why did they use CGI during the piano scene? But overall, this is what I went in expecting with two studios. Supposedly there are multiple animation directors on the MAPPA side as well, but I haven’t personally looked into that. Nonetheless, this is still an interesting show that I can’t wait to see play out.
