Platinum End Episode Five Discussion

So it’s been a bit, between relaunching my YouTube channel and starting up on Twitch, it’s been a little hard to get back to posting on the blog. But I am still keeping up with the seasonals I picked up this season, in fact I even picked up Digimon Ghost Game on top of what I’m watching, though I’m contemplating dropping Sakugan entirely.

As for Platinum End, episode five saw the death of the girl Metropoliman held hostage at the stadium as well as the introduction of someone trying to take Metropoliman out of the game itself, Nanato Mukaido.

Mukaido was a fascinating element to add to the story, he’s dying and doesn’t want to become God – but he wants to find someone who is befitting of that title, so he chooses to observe Metropoliman’s actions at the stadium and find potential candidates on his own. Upon meeting Mirai and Saki, he’s blown away by their attitudes and their selflessness, the three agree to form an alliance and recruit more candidates to fight against Metropoliman. The more interesting part of this episode was actually meeting the face behind Metropoliman, Kanade Uryu. While he’s been shown to us a few times before, this is the first time we’ve gotten to see how he acts around other humans, especially his peers at school.

Remember that suit I said I noticed in the opening to the show in the last episode review? Well that’s probably going to come into play soon, as Mukaido wants to create costumes to hide themselves from Metropoliman, meanwhile Uryu’s philosophy is coming out at school – asking “if you could have one wish what would it be?” Seemingly, he doesn’t wish for murder or anything that can be “done easily” or “are impossible because that would kill me” instead opting for more fascinating things – like limitless money, of course those were the words of his friend, what could Uryu really want more than becoming God? Is there a secret behind the weak sister he has returned to for her birthday? Are we seeing a character akin to Shishio Tsukasa from Dr. Stone? I believe so, episode six will tell more.

Platinum End can be found on Crunchyroll.
